Warm Caribbean Welcome: United Airlines Returns to St. Croix with Nonstop Flights

After 30 years, United’s Newark–St. Croix nonstop service returns

Starting October 31, 2026, United Airlines will begin nonstop flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to St. Croix (STX) on Saturdays, restoring air service between New Jersey and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The last time this connection operated was in 1994, when it was operated by Continental Airlines.

The return of this service enhances St. Croix airlift and strengthens U.S. Virgin Islands connectivity, making it easier for travelers to reach the island from the mainland United States.

“As the third generation of the Armstrong family to own and operate The Buccaneer, I’ve seen firsthand how important reliable air service is to St. Croix’s success. The return of nonstop flights from Newark creates new opportunities for visitors to experience St. Croix and makes it easier for longtime guests and residents to travel between the island and the mainland.

The service arrives at an especially exciting time as we approach The Buccaneer’s 80th anniversary in 2027, a milestone that reflects eight decades of welcoming guests to St. Croix. We are delighted to welcome United Airlines back to the island and look forward to introducing a new generation of travelers to the beauty, history, and hospitality that make St. Croix so special.”

– Elizabeth Armstrong, 3rd Generation Owner of The Buccaneer

As one of United Airlines’ largest East Coast hubs, Newark Liberty International Airport serves as a key gateway for travelers from across the United States. With extensive domestic service throughout the Northeast, Midwest, South, and West Coast, many travelers can now reach St. Croix with a single connection through Newark.

The addition of this nonstop service also increases overall seat capacity to St. Croix. For travelers who previously faced multiple connections or limited scheduling options, it helps support travel demand during peak periods while offering more booking options, convenience and flexibility.

For Virgin Islands residents, the route provides another option for reaching the mainland United States, including the many families, students, and business professionals with ties to the Northeast. It also supports medical travel needs throughout the year.

Whether planning a Caribbean vacation or time with family and friends on St. Croix, we welcome this new service and are happy to assist with planning your stay at The Buccaneer. Guests may contact our reservations team at 800 255 3881 or reservations@thebuccaneer.com.
