TRAVEL ALERT! As of May 7, 2025, U.S. travelers have been required to be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights or have a U.S. passport.

Also referred to as Star ID, REAL ID-compliant cards have a star marking on the upper top portion of the identification card and are now  required for U.S. citizens’ domestic air travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands. If the card does not have a star marking, it is not REAL ID-compliant and will not be not accepted as proof of identity to board commercial aircraft.

U.S. Passport Not Needed for Travel to U.S. Virgin Islands
While REAL ID-compliant identification is required for air travel within the United States, U.S. citizens do not need a passport to enter the U.S. Virgin Islands, as a valid driver’s license or other state-issued photo ID with a REAL ID star was sufficient for travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Other Forms of Identification:
Besides REAL IDs, Enhanced Driver’s Licenses and Enhanced Identification cards (EDL/EID) are also acceptable forms of identification and can be used to board commercial aircraft. Other acceptable forms of identification for domestic air travel included a U.S. passport, U.S. passport card, and DHS trusted traveler cards.
