The resort was beautiful and the staff were so attentive and nice, the food onsite was great but limited. I’d say the only thing that would’ve made it a little bit better is more activities on site. The Buccaneer was fantastic from beginning to end! We stayed for four to five days and loved the beautiful, expansive property, peaceful atmosphere, and convenient location—approximately 15 minutes from many of St. Croix’s major attractions. A special shout-out to Mr. Clinton, who was always prompt, polite, and dependable with transportation. The staff at The Terrace restaurant were equally exceptional—always smiling, welcoming, and providing great recommendations for food, drinks, and things to do around the island. Mermaid Beach was our favorite—pristine, crystal-clear water, plenty of space to relax, and convenient access to food and drinks. We genuinely have nothing negative to say. Worth every penny! Wonderful experience, with great breakfast servers,a delicious buffet breakfast,, our room was wonderful, great beds & bedding, great bathrooms, wonderful beaches & pool,, and the nicest thing was that the owner came looking for us to say hello & hope we enjoy our stay! It's difficult for me to separate my memories of The Buccaneer from my memories of St. Croix itself. This was my first trip to the island, and I came down for a very special reason: two friends were getting married, and I had been asked to play the bagpipes for their wedding. The Buccaneer became our home base for the weekend and the location of their reception, but it also became the place I returned to after long days and nights exploring St. Croix with my camera. From the moment I arrived, there was a sense that I wasn't simply checking into another hotel. The property is beautiful, but what stood out to me just as much was the atmosphere. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, and that went a long way toward making someone visiting St. Croix for the first time feel comfortable almost immediately. Then there's the setting. The Buccaneer sits on an incredible piece of property overlooking the Caribbean, with rolling green terrain, palms, beaches and historic architecture creating views that almost don't look real at times. As a photographer, I probably spent more time studying the light around the property than a normal guest should. Early morning was particularly beautiful. There is something about stepping outside with a camera while much of the resort is still quiet, watching the first light move across the landscape and Caribbean, that makes you appreciate exactly where you are. The resort also gave me the best of both worlds. I could spend hours driving my Jeep across St. Croix — photographing Point Udall, exploring Christiansted and Frederiksted, hiking toward Ham's Bluff Lighthouse, chasing photographs along the coast or staying out after dark working on astrophotography — and then return to a comfortable resort where I could clean up, grab something to eat and recharge before doing it all again. For this trip, that was perfect. The wedding reception at The Buccaneer made the property even more memorable. Traveling from Tennessee to St. Croix with bagpipes and Highland dress already made this one of the more unusual trips I've taken, but standing at this beautiful Caribbean resort celebrating two friends after having played for their wedding earlier that day is something I'm going to remember for a very long time. One thing I'd recommend to future guests is to actually explore the property. Don't simply walk from your room to the beach and back. Take some time to wander. Look at the views from different parts of the resort. Walk the beach early in the morning. Explore some of the historic character of the property. Watch how dramatically the scenery changes throughout the day as the Caribbean light shifts. And while The Buccaneer is certainly the kind of place where you could spend an entire vacation without going very far, I'd also strongly recommend renting a vehicle and exploring St. Croix. Use the resort as your home base, not your boundary. There is an incredible island waiting beyond the entrance. My days in St. Croix were spent photographing historic buildings, beaches, old ruins, radio astronomy equipment, rugged coastline and some of the most beautiful landscapes I've seen. I stood beneath the stars at Point Udall photographing the night sky and climbed toward an old lighthouse on the opposite end of the island. Then, at the end of those adventures, I came back here. That's probably the best compliment I can give The Buccaneer. It gave me a beautiful place to stay, but it never felt disconnected from the St. Croix experience I had come looking for. When I eventually return to the island — and after this trip, I certainly hope I do — The Buccaneer will be one of the first places I consider staying again.

Perfect honeymoon because of the Buccaneer! A perfect honeymoon! Fine dining, a variety of beautiful beaches, free excellent breakfast buffet, free ocean activity rentals, staff that treats you like family, the Buccaneer has it ALL! My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in July 2026. When we arrived, they upgraded our room to an ocean view suite because it was our honeymoon! We stayed here for 5 days and enjoyed the restaurants on the property for dinner every night. The food was exquisite. We ate at the Terrace and the Mermaid, and both were some of the best meals we’ve ever had. The service at each place was outstanding. Drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all balanced and delicious. Both restaurants are walkable from your room, or you can order a complimentary shuttle. The free breakfast buffet at the Terrace was also delightful. It is not your average continental breakfast at a hotel. It is fresh-cooked food kept in warmers with lids. Everything is very clean and cross-contamination was rare. My husband is allergic to seafood, and we had no issues while on the island, despite seafood being served everywhere. The potatoes at breakfast were delicious, and free coffee served promptly with a smile made us feel welcomed. We ate breakfast there every day we stayed and tried something new each day. The beaches! They really have a beach for it all. The Mermaid beach is perfect for relaxing in the sand or swimming out or just drinking and wading. Rent paddle boards or kayaks for free and go crazy in this little protected cove. The Grotto beach is perfect for snorkeling (rented for free from the beach shacks) since there’s some reef right outside the entrance points. We saw lots of cool fish. The Whistle beach was nice and secluded. No one was out there any of the days we went. We found some really cool washed up coral and shells on the beach, but didn’t go into the water much there since it’s mostly rocky at the shoreline. The room was perfect. I cannot begin to express how wonderful our ocean view suite was. The balcony is breezy and perfect for enjoying morning coffee while listening to the waves. The bed was comfortable and made freshly daily for us. The room was swept of sand daily and towels replenished. Staff was discreet and only came in when we weren’t there. We left valuables in the room and everything was untouched. Getting around the resort is easy. There are some hills to trek if you’re into that, but if not, shuttles. There is a nice easy trail around the golf course that leads to the Whistle beach and has a beautiful view if you like to hike. We truly had the best vacation ever because we chose to stay at the Buccaneer. We will be returning soon!
